Nethra Kumanan became the first Indian woman sailor to secure an Olympic quota place by taking an unassailable lead in the Laser Radial event.

The 23-year-old Kumanan has a 21-point advantage over her nearest rival, who also happens to be an Indian — Ramya Saravanan — in the Laser Radial Class event with one race to go on Thursday (8th April).

Nethra Kumanan won a bronze medal in the Sailing World Cup to become the first woman from the country to achieve the feat.

The sailor now will shift her eyes towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and will get a chance to qualify at the Asian Sailing Championships that will be held at Abu Dhabi from March 15, 2020.
