
Novak Djokovic is one of the best Tennis players in the world. He hails from Belgrade, Yugoslavia now in Serbia. He is one of the game’s premier performers in the early 21st century and holds 16 Grand Slam titles to his name. Djokovic took up the sport at a young age of four and quickly ascended the junior ranking. He had a tough childhood as he grew up in the war-torn Serbia of the 1990s. This never let his morale down and went on became Europe’s top-ranked 14-and-under player and followed with the number one 16-and-under player on the continent.
Novak Djokovic lost his cool in spur of the moment and which led him to being was kicked out of the US Open. This happened when the Novak had just lost a game to his opponent, Pablo Carreno Busta, to fall behind 6-5 in the first set. He lost his temper unintentionally striking a female line judge in her throat post dropping a game in his fourth-round match. This brought sudden end to his to his 29-match winning streak and securing for an 18th Grand Slam title. The line Judge fell to the ground and was screaming in pain, post realizing what had happened, Djokovic ran over to her and apologised.
Tournament referee Soeren Friemel was having serious discussion Grand Slam supervisor Andreas Egli and chair umpire Aurelie Tourte for about 10 minutes, while Novak was continuously pleading his plight to them and saying he had no intention to hit the official and was heard saying “she doesn’t have to go to hospital for this”.
In his defence, Novak was quoted saying “His point was that he didn’t hit the line umpire intentionally. Yes, I was angry. I hit the ball. I hit the line umpire. The facts are very clear. But it wasn’t my intent. I didn’t do it on purpose.’ So, he said he shouldn’t be defaulted for it.” But Friemel, decided to end the match and was quoted saying “And we all agree that he didn’t do it on purpose, but the facts are still that he hit the line umpire and the line umpire was clearly hurt.”
Post the decision finalized by the umpires, Djokovic was seen in walking over to shake hands with Carreño Busta took to social media, posting an apology statement and wrote“This whole situation has left me really sad and empty. I checked on the lines person and the tournament told me that thank God she is feeling ok. I ‘m extremely sorry to have caused her such stress. So unintended. So wrong. I’m not disclosing her name to respect her privacy.
As for the disqualification, I need to go back within and work on my disappointment and turn this all into a lesson for my growth and evolution as a player and human being.
