He was a standout high school football player at the position of Defensive Tackle which earned a scholarship at the University of Miami.
But soon all his hopes came crashing down when he suffered a back injury that held him to lose a potential starting spot to Warren Sapp, who went on to become a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His hope of playing NFL were reduced when he wasn’t invited to the combine. He competed for a roster spot in the CFL for the Calgary Stampeders, but was released early into the season. He had to move in with his Parents and was in a rough patch in his life.
But was staunch believer that hard work pays off, but he had was $7 in his pocket. He decided to follow in the footsteps of his Dad and become a professional wrestler and rest they say is history. He started from scratch and over the years to become one of the biggest superstars of the decade in the WWE.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson once again came to rescue of his former Boss, Vince McMahon and keeping the XFL in the professional wrestling family. As per official reports, The Rock along with RedBird Capital and business partner Dany Garcia went to buy the XFL for $15 million just hours before the bankrupt league was set for an auction.
The Rock took to social media to confirm the news and wrote, “With my trail blazing partner @DanyGarciaCo & Red Bird Capital, we have acquired the XFL. With gratitude & passion I’ve built a career with my own two hands and will apply these callouses to our @xfl2020 brand. Excited to create something special for the fans! #XFL #fullcircle.”
XFL was dream project of WWE’s Chairman Vince McMahon and consisted of eight team football leagues. The league had only season in 2001 and was more aggressive side of Football than NFL. The league was once again launched in 2020 and was gaining popularity in its first five weeks of the season. But ever since Coronavirus Pandemic the remainder of its season was cancelled and statement was released, “all players will be paid their base pay and benefits for the 2020 regular season. Notably, it also promised that “The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years.”
Fans are excited to see on what role will be taken by Johnson with the SFL only time will tell but one thing is for sure that his presence as one of the league’s owner will likely bring newfound attention to the new league.
