Sholay fame Jagdeep passed away on 8th July. Read on to know some lesser known facts about the late comedian and actor.



This year the nation and Hindi Film industry has lost some precious gems over the past few months. The nation woke up to one more shocking news of Veteran actor Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri, loving known as Jagdeep, passed away at the age of 81. He is being survived by his two sons Jaaved Jaaferi and Naved Jafri. He has had a successful career in the fil industry which has lasted for more than 6 decades.

Jagdeep ji had featured in more than 400 movies and few of his memorable role which is etched in hearts of the cinemagoers is Sholay in which he essayed the role of Soorma Bhopali and his iconic dialogue “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahin hai” is still remembered by fans.

Jagdeep is also remembered for his performance in the comedy film Andaz Apna, where he played Salman Khan’s father Bankelal is still remembered by fans. His other He was known for his comic timing and Jagdeep’s other popular movies are such as Teen Bahuraniyan, Khilona, Bidaai, Aaina, Agent Vinod, Qurbani, Shahenshah, China Gate, special appearance in Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, Life Partner. He was last seen in the movie, Gali Gali Chor Hai. 

He was bestowed with Lifetime Achievement Award at IIFA in 2019. He was bestowed the award Ranveer Singh while his whole family including Javed, Naved and Meezaan stood beside him during the honours. He has left a huge void which will be hard to fill in the Hindi film industry for years to come. He started his journey as a child artist in the movie Afsana which was produced by B.R. Chopra.

He went on to entertain future generation with his brilliant comic timings and his acting prowess. He played a crucial role in the industry for the very long time and has left a legacy that will be cherished for generations through the medium of his countless movies. Jagdeep’s last rites was performed on Thursday at Shia Kabrastan in Mumbai.


Mourning the demise of the veteran actor, several Bollywood celebrities took to social media to pay tributes to the great artiste who made everyone laugh with his performance.
