The news was confirmed by his brother Sajid Khan, and quoted saying “He died of a cardiac arrest.” While interacting with the media, revealed his brother he died due to complications arising from a kidney infection. In recent times he had undergone an organ transplant and had been on a ventilator for the last few days.

Sajid-Wajid comes from a rich musical lineage and their father was the late Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, the veteran tabla player who worked with music legends in Hindi movie for decades. Sajid-Wajid commenced their professional journey in the ‘90s. As informed earlier they hail from great lineage — Ustad Faiyyaz Ahmed Khan and Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan were their maternal grandfather and grand-uncle. Ustad Abdul Latif Khan was their paternal grandfather – they were classically trained.

The siblings first project was Salman Khan’s Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, and the song ‘Teri Jawaani Badi Mast’ became star buster immediately and stood the test of time too. This led to work with Salman Khan once again in ‘Hello Brother’ and music of the movie was vastly different from the previous one. They went on to create another record in the 90’s when in Sajid-Wajid delivered one of the biggest hits of all time in collaboration with Sonu Nigam, titled Deewana. We never pandered to baser trends, but always catered to rooh (soul) in our songs. The foremost thing we keep in mind is that we come from a rich lineage and that we should do nothing jinse unnki naak kat jaaye ya sar jhuk jaaye (by which they will be disgraced).”
