We are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day today on 22nd April every year. This year is very different as the whole globe is fighting an unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. The coronavirus is known as COVID-19 is affecting 210 countries around the world. The total amount of Coronavirus Cases has been 2,557,994, from which 177,688 have died. While 695,355 have successfully recovered.

The vision behind the celebrating the day is to create awareness amongst the people about the climate and global warming. The Earth Day also is celebrating to motivate towards working for the betterment of the environment and focus on the need for conservation. Also the immediate task is to battle industrial pollution, oil spills, toxic waste disposal and others.

The first Earth Day was celebrated was on 22nd April 1970, 20 million Americans took to the streets to protest against environmental unawareness. Ever since it has been an annual event and major credit goes to US Senator Gaylord Nelson who was very vocal in the support of people regarding this demanding topic. As a result, environment and earth conservation became a topic of discussion at the national as international level. Over the years has gained a lot of importance and paved result when In 2016 numerous countries around the world agreed came together to sign a legally binding Climate Deal at the Paris Climate Conference.

Every year the theme is different and this year theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges to the future of civilization and the life-support systems that make our world liveable. Earthday.org released a statement “The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. The enormous challenge — but also the vast opportunities — of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic for the 50th anniversary. Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.”

The spread of novel coronavirus has not brought the world on standstill and it is the biggest threats to the global economy and financial markets. He wrote, “On International Day of Mother Earth, we all express gratitude to our planet for the abundance of care & compassion. Let us pledge to work towards a cleaner, healthier & more prosperous planet. A shout out to all those working at the forefront to defeat COVID-19. #EarthDay2020 “

On the other hand, Coronavirus cases has risen to 15,474 active cases and Total deaths stood at 640. While 3,869 patients have been cured. On the other hand, Coronavirus cases has risen to 20,333 active cases and Total deaths stood at 652. While  4,006 patients have been cured and 15,675 are active patients.
