Amitabh Bachchan is an institution in himself and the man doesn’t need any introduction. He has been entertaining us for the past 4 decades. He has given us memorable roles which are etched in the mind of cinemagoer even till date but also has sung few songs which have gone on the become chartbuster. He is also known by many nicknames such as Big B, Shehenshah, Angry Young Man and many others.

Bachchan Saab literal name means ‘unlimited brilliance It is his baritone voice which sets him apart from everyone else and fluent command over the language is quite evident whenever he speaks or deliver dialogue in the movie. He made his debut with Saat Hindustani in the year, 1969 and his performance was appreciated which led to him winning National Award for the best supporting actor but the movie tanked at the Box office.

He went through a tough time when his 12 movies flopped at the box office but fortune changed post- the success of Zanjeer. The movie was an iconic movie which was directed by Prakash Mehra. Tiding the waves of success and became the young angry man of Hindi cinema. The stalwart actor has mesmerized us with his superb performances in films like Laawaris, Coolie, Naseeb, Silsila, Shaarabi, Pink and Badla continued to win the heart of fans and also landed him multiple Fanfare Awards. From the 1970s till date, had appeared in more than 100 films.

A while back Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar had informed that Bachchan has been selected for the Dada Saheb Phalke award for the year 2018 for his contribution to the Indian film industry. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest honour in cinema and it is handed out at the National Film Award ceremony every year. The National Film Award winners for this year were announced in August.

The versatile actor took to social media to express his feeling towards being bestowed with Dada Sahab Phalke award and was quoted saying that, “There is a paucity of words searching a response .. for the generosity of words that pour in ..I am but deeply grateful and most humbled .. my sincerest gratitude ..”

Amitabh Bachchan was bestowed with Dadasaheb Phalke Award by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan and was quoted saying that “When this award was announced, a doubt arose in my mind: if this is an indication for me to sit at home and relax after working for so many years? There is some more work I have to finish and certain possibilities are coming up where I may get a chance to do some work. I just wanted some clarification on this.”

The veteran actor also had a special message to the government, Information & Broadcasting Ministry and the jury members of the National Film Awards for naming him the Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient and said “God has been kind. There have been blessings of my parents, the support of the directors, producers, co-actors from the industry, but I am most indebted to the love and constant encouragement by the Indian audience. That’s the reason I am standing here. I accept this award with utmost humility and gratitude.” Bachchan Saab was supposed to receive the honour at the National Film Awards ceremony last Monday, but the actor couldn’t attend due to illness.

 The actor was Joined by his wife Jaya Bachchan and son, actor Abhishek Bachchan at the ceremony. On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan will next be seen in four films next year in Gulabo Sitabo, Chehre, Jhund and Brahmastra.
