Chandro And Prakashi Tomar Opened On How ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ Will Inspire Daughters Have A Life Beyond Four Walls Of Kitchens.

The name Rabindranath Tagore is synonymous with great poetry, novel and a painter who once said that everything good comes when the mind is without fear. This statement was prove right by  Chandro and Prakashi Tomar. The two ladies Chandro Tomar, 86, and her 81-year-old sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar, are India’s octogenarian sharpshooters who aged who hail from Western Uttar Pradesh, took up the sport quiet late in her their fifties. As per records Chandro Tomar is considers the oldest known sharp shooter in India and among the world’s oldest female sharpshooters.

The sister in law duo has won many accolades in various championships across the nation. Prakashi Tomar also has been bestowed with Stree Shakti Puraskar which was conferred by the President of India, besides other government awards. The talent isn’t restricted to Prakashi Tomar but also runs in the family as her daughter, Seema Tomar, became the first Indian woman shooter to win a silver medal at the International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup in 2010.

Chandro Tomar is popularly known as Revolver Dadi and won more than 25 national championships in shooting, is the oldest woman sharpshooter in the world. She alongwith her granddaughter joined the Johri Rifle Club. At the range, Chandro took a pistol and commenced shooting at the target, amazed everyone with her abilities. Revolver Dadi was quoted saying that, “As soon as I shot my first pistol I was hooked. And now I’ve shown everyone there’s no disadvantages to my age. If you’re focused you can do anything,”

During recent interaction with the media, opened about how they picked up the sports.  “When I started shooting, I was already 65. I took my granddaughter to Saifali and handed her a loaded gun but she got scared. Then I tried a shot and it hit at 10 in the first time, That was when I had my first encounter with shooting and I started going to practice every day. Days after, a picture of mine appeared in the newspaper.”

The anecdote of Arjun hitting the fish’s eye in the epic Mahabharata is well known and that is what the octogenarian had to convey as a message. Arjun didn’t see the fish but saw the eye. So keep your focus on the eye.”  The ladies are of the opinion that girls shouldn’t be kept at home as they are nothing less than boys.

Biopics has been the flavour of the season in Bollywood, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar essayed the role of  sharpshooters Chandro Tomar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar in movie titled Saand Ki Aankh. The movie was helmed by Tushar Hiranandani’. The movie is jointly-produced by Anurag Kashyap and Nidhi Parmar.
